📍 Trail Highlights
Trail 401: The crown jewel. An 8-mile descent from Schofield Pass through alpine meadows exploding with wildflowers in July and August. Views of Mt. Bellview and the Maroon Bells make it one of the most photographed MTB trails in the world.
Dr. Park: Technical, fast, and flowy. A favorite for riders who want a mix of roots, rocks, and speed.
Lupine: Accessible from town, this trail offers rolling singletrack with stunning valley views—perfect for a warm-up ride.
Snodgrass: A local favorite near Gothic, weaving through aspen groves with moderate climbs and playful descents.

🌸 Seasonal Beta
Spring (May–June): Trails at lower elevation open first. Expect mud and lingering snow at higher passes.
Summer (July–August): Peak season. Wildflowers blanket the meadows, and most trails are fully open.
Fall (September–October): Golden aspens and crisp air make for unforgettable rides, though early snow can close high routes.
Winter: Groomed fat bike trails exist, but most singletrack is snow-covered.
🛠️ Trail Conditions & Closures
The Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association (CBMBA) maintains trail status reports, noting which trails are rideable, muddy, or closed for wildlife protection. Riders are encouraged to check conditions before heading out, especially after rain or during freeze-thaw cycles.
🧠 Lessons for Riders
Preparation matters: With 450+ miles of trail, knowing your route is essential.
Respect closures: Wildlife and erosion management keep the trails sustainable.
Ride with perspective: The climbs are tough, but the views and descents are worth every pedal stroke.
✨ Closing Insight
Crested Butte MTB isn’t just about riding trails—it’s about experiencing a landscape that shaped the sport itself. With the right beta, every ride becomes more than a workout—it becomes part of the story of mountain biking.
